Patti Gates is the owner of ReadWise with Patti, where she supports struggling readers of all ages, including adults. With 30+ years of teaching experience, she offers Dyslexia support using the Barton Reading and Spelling Program — a proven, multisensory approach that helps readers build real, lasting skills.
Over three decades in the classroom, Patti has seen firsthand how the right instruction can transform a frustrated reader into a confident one. She founded ReadWise with Patti to give every student the focused, one-on-one attention they deserve, in a warm and encouraging setting where mistakes are simply part of learning.
Our Approach
Patti gives personalized attention to every student, tailoring each session to the reader's pace, strengths, and needs. For Dyslexia support, she uses the Barton Reading and Spelling Program — a structured, multisensory Orton-Gillingham method that breaks reading and spelling down into manageable, sequential steps.
Her goal is simple: improve reading and academic performance by meeting the needs of every reader. Sessions move only as fast as mastery allows, so students build genuine fluency and confidence rather than relying on guessing or memorization.

Zoom tutoring is available anywhere, so readers can learn from the comfort of home no matter where they live. For those who prefer face-to-face sessions, in-person tutoring is available throughout the East Bay, based in Antioch, California.
